Chanting the praises of Sri Raghavendra Swamy is a cherished daily practice for his devotees. The most beloved verse is the Raghavendra Stotra, known by its opening words “Poojyaya Raghavendraya…”
The Well-Known Rayaru Sloka
Poojyaya Raghavendraya Satya Dharma Rataya cha
Bhajatam Kalpa Vrikshaya Namataam Kamadhenave
This verse salutes Rayaru as the one worthy of worship, devoted to truth and dharma, a wish-fulfilling Kalpavriksha (divine tree) to those who worship him, and a Kamadhenu (divine cow) to those who bow to him.
How Devotees Chant
- Many recite the sloka before beginning their day or worship
- It is often chanted 3, 11 or 108 times as a personal practice
- Devotees light a lamp before Rayaru’s image and offer simple prayers
- Thursdays are considered especially auspicious for the practice
Mangalashtaka and Other Prayers
Alongside the stotra, devotees recite the Sri Raghavendra Mangalashtaka and the longer Sri Raghavendra Stotra by Appannacharya, a direct disciple whose devotion is legendary. Chanting with faith and understanding, rather than in haste, is what the tradition emphasises.
